Description

Track number – 1 on the CD Dawn of a New Day

Short Description

Time Marches On is a lighthearted and relatively short instrumental piece representing time moving forward as marked off through the use of woodblocks replacing the normal sound of a clock. The idea was to compose a piece which suggested the inevitable, that time keeps moving forward. I also wanted to make Time Marches On a really fun piece and I believe this goal was reached.  Time Marches On is a relatively short composition originally composed in 2006 by Don Rath Jr.

Story behind the song

I was given the instrument selection by my life partner for Time Marches On to work with instruments other than the strings. The subject matter was also suggested but no musical theme. This was left up to me to decide. The tick-tock reproduced by using wood blocks. It became the foundation and the driver of the piece and so Time Marches On based upon the simple idea of passing time. Inspiration can come from many sources and Time Marches On evolved from this simple idea to eventually become a new lighthearted composition and a fun one at that! I hope you enjoy the mp3 clip of this piece.
